Man in Uniform-- "I got a surprise for my wife... a romantic cruise"

I'll be going home next month and I want to surprise my wife with tickets to a 7 to 10-day (all-romantic!) cruise...Actually this is a late honeymoon for us because I was deployed a few weeks after our wedding. I want it to be as memorable and meaningful for both of us--to make up for the lost time and all =)

Now, can anyone help me choose the best cruise vacation package and the best romantic destination?

Another question-- Would my Marine Corp Dress Whites be a good get-up on designated "formal nights"? Got some doubts about this but I thought it would be cool...

Thanks in advance

Hi Davey,

If I were you I would go for the East Mediterrenean cruises... The old Europe is very romantic, it's the craddle of our civilization and the on-land excursions are really fabulous! We sailed from Rome to Greece - several islands - Turkey - several ports including Instanbul, Greece mainland (Athens), Napels (Pompei or the island of Capri) and we loved every minute of it. It was our first cruise, so maybe we were just like kids in the candy store, but our second cruise, in the West Carribean, wasn't that impressing...

As for your Marine Gala Uniform... I don't know, but then, I am not a uniform person (!). Let me put it this way: you won't be the laughing stock of the ship, but you will be the only one, supposedly. But if your wife loves your white uniform, then I would say: go for it and please her and to h*** with what other people might think or say!!

BTW if you have the time - and money - do spend a few days in Rome! Talking romantic...!! We had a great time there before the cruise, almost hated it to board the ship... :-))

Davey. . .Question.  What area do you reside?  That would help giving you some tips on a cruise.

Yes!  Do wear your whites on formal night.  Thank you for serving your country and you will see and hear how proud other passengers will be when they see your Marine Corp Dress Whites.  I am sure there will be many vets on the cruise and you'll make them proud also.

Thanks so much for your replies, I really appreciate it.

I can't wait to get home and surprise my wife with THE cruise!

I guess wearing my "whites" will call attention to myself (that would make me cringe), but I was never called an introvert. What's funny is that I am usually an outgoing person, but  I guess the attention and the comments will be overwhelming.

@Texaspepper: We call Macon, Georgia home. I would appreciate any suggestion as to the best cruise package. Thanks

Davey, you could cruise out of Tampa, Cape Canaveral, Fort Lauderdale and Miami.  You have good choices.  You need to decide how many days you will want to cruise.  Four, five or seven.  That will help you narrow it down.  Then what area.  I can't really nail down a agent for you as we are members of Great Escapes Travel Club and we purchase at agent cost and money back perks.  I know Vacations To Go is competitive or perhaps Cruise.com.  Maybe someone will give you a lead from this board.  FYI. . .cruise prices drop after early to mid September.  Happy cruising.

Davey,

We drive thru Macon about twice a year--to our timeshare in Siesta Key and to one of the cruise ports. Another port is Mobile, which we cruised out of last year. The Carnival Elation is home based there now. We cruised on her about 10 years ago when the ship was based in San Pedro, CA. The only drawback with Mobile right now is the oil spill.
Our next cruise is on the Freedom of the Seas out of Cape Canaveral. RCI does have a military discount. You might check them out.
