We book on Carnival. We go to their site to get an idea. We then call and usually we get a better deal from a live person. We also belong to Carnival Rewrds program. Great deals all around and the perks are awesome. We will be leaving on the 2nd of November and will be our 12 or 13th cruise. Gotta love it. There is nothing like a cruise.
When we first started cruising in 2006, vacationstogo.com always had the lowest prices. Often much better deals than we could find directly from the cruise lines.
It has changed since that time. Now when we find a good deal on the big travel sites (Travelocity, Priceline etc..) we go to the cruise line site and find the same offer.

Vacationstogo mirrors Carnival's deals....try Carnival first....you may get special discounts for being military, resident rates, past cruisers, etc....other travel sites may have good deals also....however, should prices drop, (by the cruise line) you will have to go through the Travel Agency versus the cruiseline....this may or may not be a tedious process.
Carnival has a great program going on now called Early Saver. We saved almost $1,000 through this program (including the suspension of fuel surcharges). Feel free to check them out and other cruiselines as well.....
Bottom line is, whatever works best for you, the consumer, given your needs, wants, and spending limits, versus which cruise line gives you the biggest bang for your buck. Some are better than others.....do your research and make a decision upon what YOU want/need.
Best of luck to you...and have a GREAT time cruising!
If you would like an awesome personal vacation planner (PVP) from Carnival, should you decide to go this route, let me know...We will put you in touch with a wonderful person who could make your cruising experience(s)/planning hassle-free.
I always use a company called Cruise.co.uk and so far they have always been then the cruise lines and many of the other competitors. I usually find I can get a cheaper price if a call a few different agents and get them to price match.
Check all the cruiselines' sites periodically. They run sales. With the financial downturn they are really discounting for booking early. When I booked that TransAtlantic cruise (see my countdown tickers) the 14 day cruise from Barcelona to Ft. Lauderdale was going for $599 interior, $799 Oceanview, $899 balcony. A travel agent in a role call for my Oasis cruise pointed it out to me. When I called my own travel agent to book it, she couldn't believe the rate. She got us a balcony for $799 each though
The rates have gone up since then. So it pays to book a year or so in advance.
Also there are deals if you book a cruise while your are on one. Booking onboard usually gets you a discount AND an onboard credit added to any loyaly discounts you qualify for.
Once you have cruised, do join the loyalty program. There are perks.
Royal Caribbean just upped theirs again. By the time we do the TransAtlantic we'll be Diamond = free drinks at happy hour in the Diamond Lounge

You type in the cruise you want to book, and you will get offers from multiple travel agents.
I tried with our last cruise and was offered some good deals. We wasn't able to go through with them because we were going to pay with the points from our RCCL visa card and I guess that will cause a deduction from the agents commission.
Here are some perks offered by 3 agents:
1. Book by 6/15 and you'll qualify for a 50% reduced deposit, a specialty dinner for two & $132 nboard credit. Families booking with a child 17 and younger receive a meal for four at Johnny Rockets or Wine, Soda Package for Kids and Priority Boarding.
2. $75/cabin onboard credit for category I outside rooms and RCI Onboard Coupon Book for each cabin
3. EACH CABIN WILL RECEIVE $75.00 ON BOARD CREDIT (CASH ON THE SHIP) AND A BOTTLE OF WINE.
Keep in mind that those 3 agents offered that in addition to a lower price than RCCL.
It's free so it can't hurt to try....

Geez, I thought I really did a discovery with the website "Vacations to Go" a few days ago.... but of course you aal know many more sites where you get good deals. I was quite impressed with VtG discounts to up to 55%...
Got to learn so much more... and so little time, ha ha!!
There are loads of websites where you can get a good deal, although I would always say that it is best to get a price from a few different agents. Another website which I have used in the past would be cruise.com although it is quite hard to navigate around they do have some good deals.
