We were looking for a cruise over the fall, and we couldn't resist this cruise when RCCL dropped the prices to $109
How did I book?:
We booked on Royal Caribbean's web site.
Did I get a good price?:
$109 for 4 days is unbeatable.
How was my trip to the port?:
A quick 1 hour drive.
Embarkation/Debarkation:
Embarkation and debarkation went very smoothly.
The ship:
We were on the sister ship, Sovereign of the Seas, before RCCL sold it, so we had an idea of what to expect. It's a nice, well kept ship and we liked it. We would go again, anytime.
Cabin:
The first I have to bring up here is the size. The cabin was tiny. When we first walked in there with our suitcases, we were stuck. It takes some planning to move around in there.
Everything was nice and clean though.
This was our first inside cabin. We could have had an outside cabin for pretty much the same price, but we chose this because it was on deck 5 and the outside was on deck 3.
Man, it's dark in there! I usually wake up around 6 or 7am in an outside cabin. One of the days we slept past 10am and missed our breakfast. I don't think I have ever slept that late before. I definitely prefer an outside cabin, but my wife loved it.
Dining:
We always had our breakfast and lunch at the buffet. The food was good there and there was a large variety.
In the dining room we had the "my time seating" for the first time. It worked very well. We ran over the "Compass" in the morning and found a good time to eat, so it would fit with the shows and other activities.
Then we called and made our reservation and we never had to wait more than a couple of minutes before getting seated. We were placed in the same area every night, so we had the same waiters every night.
The two person table wasn't exactly what I expected. There was a row of two person tables with about 16 inches between them. It was ok, but a bit too tight.
Entertainment:
The "Dancing in the Street" performance was really fun. The dancers and the cruise director were disco dancing in the centrum, the glass elevators, and the stairs up around the centrum.
The main shows were just ok. The main female singer did a fantastic job on "I will Always Love You"
Ports & Excursions: CocoCay We went through the small shops and then straight for the buffet. The food was good. Burgers, chicken, hotdogs, salad bar, and cake. Free lemonade and ice tea.
We walked for about an hour away from the main beach and found some nice and quiet beach areas, and beautiful views over the water.
When we came back we found two lounge chairs right at the water and did some people watching and drank Coco Loco's. That's life!
Nassau We went to the Straw Market and left soon after. It's horribly hot in that tent. We found another shop (see my gallery) and here you could find the same kind of products, without being badgered by the vendors. Overall Experience:
It was a great cruise and we had a good time. Of course, 4 days went by way too fast. I wonder how many days it will take for me to be "cruised out"?
I have now taken 2 cruises on the Monarch. Being an hour away from Port Canaveral is very convenient. Next Port Canaveral cruise will be on the Freedom of the Seas
