I have read recently where (not on ucruiser) some folks have expressed discontentment over cruising out of The Port Of Galveston, TX

We live in Fort Worth, TX. Thank You. . .thankyouverymuch!

For my wife and I, the Port Of Galveston works great for us. We cruise RCL Voyager Of The Sea; Carnival Conquest and Carnival Ecstasy. Don't have to fly anywhere and hassle overweight bags, airport hassle and transfers.

We always book parking on line at Lighthouse Parking and print out the receipt. Leave home on Saturday and drive to Houston and stay at Sheraton off 290 @ 610. Relax and drive to Galveston on Sunday. Arrive at Lighthouse Parking about 10:30AM. We are on board the ship by 11:45AM and having lunch. At the end of the cruise we reverse, stay in Houston and drive home on Monday. It's a breeze going up 610 -290 to 6 and then Waco pick up I-35 to home.

Living in Texas and cruising out of Galveston is the best. Only one thing could be better. . .more ships are coming to Galveston in 2011. Houston has a new Cruise Terminal- they spent $80 million . . .hoping "If you build it . .they will come." Thus far; no one has come. It is 1 hour + more cruise time to reach the mouth of the gulf. We cruised out of Houston Sept 2008 after Ike wiped out Galveston. Not a great experience.

So, Galveston is it. Don't care for Miami port. Big. . busy. Think the most comfortable port we cruised out of was Barcelona, Spain. Zip check in. Zip on the ship.

WI-TX. . .that upcoming cruise sound great.  Family, cruise, food, drinks, reunion and this Texas heat will be over by then.  We were on the Ecstasy Sept 09 and had a great time.  Fantasy before that out of New Orleans for our wedding anniversary July 09. . .I thought the food had improved on both ships since our last time on Carnival.  I was reading on another cruise board that Carnival orders all it meat from a great meat packing company in Minnisota I think.  Guy said his son in the Head Meat Cutter and Carnival accounts for 30% increase in businnes. Last April Carnival began using J&B Foods of Albertville, Minnesota as their meat supplier. . .glad to hear that. No more "Prime Chuck" posing as "Prime Rib."  I sent that one back.

Ya, Barcelona is just a great port to sail in and out of.  If we can swing it.. .we hope to do either Carnival Magic Oct 28, 2011 Barcelona to Galveston 16 Day T/A or the Royal Caribbean Mariner of the Seas Oct 26, 2011 Barcelona to Galveston 14 Day T/A.  Have some family date conflicts we have to work out to make it happen.  We are Platinum on both cruise lines so it will be a toss up who gives the best deal.

I whole heartedly agree with you.  We are so lucky to be able to sail out of Galveston.  We live in Whitewright TX, about 90 miles NE of FW.  It is only a 6hrs drive to Galveston, no flights involved.  It really stretches the vacationb $$'s.  We are sailing on the Ecstasy Dec 6th.  My brother and his wife are driving down from MN, staying with us presail. We will drive to Bay Town and visit with relatives on Sun stay at a hotel and drive down Mon.

This will be their 1st cruise.  We last sailed on Ecstasy in 2008.  With the renovation it will be like the 1st time on the ship for us also.  With Carnival changing ships next year it will be all new again.

I sailed out of Barcelona last fall on Celebrity Summit and I agree it was very easy.
