Being from a modest size community in the Midwest we seldom run across people deemed famous. However, we have met famous, or maybe we should say semi-famous folks on our way to a cruise and on cruise ships.

We were flying from Atlanta to Fort Lauderdale for a cruise on a wide body L1011 aircraft. Trick Daddy set across the aisle from us with his entourage. He was very friendly and we carried on a conversation the entire flight. We actually didn't know he was famous until an entire girls volleyball team came over for his autograph. We must confess we are not really into rap music, including Caribbean rap. After we found out he was famous I asked him why he didn't fly first class and he said his body guard sitting next to him was scared to fly and wanted to be in the center row of seats in the wide body plane. His body guard never opened his eyes until the plane landed.

We were on the Veendam in Jan, 2000, which turned out to be the St. Louis Cardinals group cruise. We met some of the players and former pitcher and now TV color announcer, the Mad Hungarian, Al Hrabosky. That was quite a thrill as we are diehard Cardinal baseball fans! We ended up partying with them up in the Crows Nest each evening. A few years later I was in Cincinnati on business and had tickets to a Reds/Cardinal game. As it turned out I was staying at the same hotel as the Cardinals and ran into Al Hrabosky having his shoes shined. He remembered me from the cruise. As I went to checkout Mark McGwire was standing next to me and signed my hotel receipt.

On our Mexican Riviera cruise in Sept, 2000 we met the so called bad boy of the NBA, Rasheed Wallace, who now plays for the Detroit Pistons. At that time he was playing for the Portland Trailblazers. He was trying to be inconspicuous by wearing a floppy hat most of the time, however, his almost 7' height was hard to hide. We were standing next to him in line for photos one evening and I noticed the RS shaved into his hair. It then clicked who he was and I asked him if he was Rasheed whom played for NC in college. He was not very friendly as he did not want anybody bothering him. I told him I couldn't care less about his 'status' I was just making conversation to be friendly.

On our New Year 2008 cruise on the Constellation we met Alex "Happy" Howden and his lovely wife. He is a retired standup comedian and actor from Scotland. His last role was a bit part in 'Gangs of New York'. He played the hangman.
